Race: White

Sex: Male

Age at Death: 44 years

Synopsis: On December 24, 1980 (Christmas Eve) at approximately 9:45 p.m., Charles Osberg was seated inside his residence watching a Christmas television show with his friends and family. Without warning, a snipers’ bullet tore through the residence window, striking Mr. Osberg in the neck, killing him. He was 44 years old at the time of his murder. Moments before the murder, a witness inside the residence observed a 1977 or 1978 white Cadillac drive slowly past three or four times. It is unknown if the occupant(s) in this Cadillac were involved in Osberg’s murder. Mr. Osberg was employed as the plant manager for CalPortland Cement Company in Colton, California (now known as CalPortland Company). The motive for his murder is unclear. In the three years prior to Mr. Osberg’s murder, there were numerous arsons and non-fatal attacks directed at the plant’s supervisory personnel. The crimes were believed to have been committed by disgruntled employees because of the decisions the supervisory personnel (including Mr. Osberg) were making at the time.

CalPortland Company will still honor the $25,000 reward offered in 1980 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Charles George Osberg.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Cold Case Homicide Unit at (909) 421-4990 or (909) 820-2632.
