The Rialto Police Department's Citizen Academy is temproarily suspended until further notice. Please check our website starting late May for updates regarding the Citizen Academy program. The next Academy is tentatively being scheduled for this fall and will be taught by Lt. Robert Smith.

The Citizen’s Academy is designed to present residents with an understanding of the Police Department’s operations, which will provide a greater awareness and understanding of law enforcement’s role in our community. Each week, an inside look at police functions will be taught by police executives and veteran officers.

The Citizen’s Academy curriculum will include, among other things: criminal investigations, traffic laws, radio communications, drug and gang enforcement, police ethics, police K9s, SWAT, crisis negotiation, crime analysis, and patrol functions.

Class size is limited to about 40-45 attendees, due to site capacity limitations. Preference will be given first to Rialto residents. You must be at least 18 years of age; no felony convictions; no misdemeanor convictions within the last 3 years; and no pending criminal cases. When the class is reinstated, applications and additional information will be on this page.
